Dear 2^nd Grade Parents,

We would like to take this opportunity to ask for your assistance in preparing the children for their First Reconciliation.  As you’re well aware, we only have them for 1 hour a week for the next 5 weeks (we’re off on February 14^th due to the “Winter Break” at school and we have our Retreat on February 28^th).  Due to time constraints, it makes it difficult for us to accomplish everything.

This is where you come in.  We are asking you to work with your child during the week on things such as:

·        Practicing their prayers;

o       The Our Father

o       Hail Mary

o       Act of Contrition (can be found on inside cover of their book)

·        Helping them examine their conscience; and

o       Talk to them about what they might have done wrong, why they did it and how they can try to do better next time.

·        Doing a weekly family assignment.

Family Assignment: If you’ll look in the middle of your child’s book, you’ll see a Family Guide.  The family guide will follow along with our weekly lessons.  What we’re asking is that you work with your child at home doing the following:

·        January 17^th – Chapter 1 – God Gives you Life - Complete one of the “Suggestions for daily life” OR “Enrichment activities” – page 5

·        January 24^th – Chapter 2 – God Gives you Love – Complete one of the “Suggestions for daily life” OR “Enrichments activities” – page 6 OR the Look and Listen activity on page 25 of the Student’s book

·        January 31^st – Chapter 3 – God Gives you Joy - Complete one of the “Suggestions for daily life” OR “Enrichments activities” – page 13

·        February 7^th – Chapter 4 – God Gives you Peace - Complete one of the “Suggestions for daily life” OR “Enrichments activities” – page 14

·        February 21^st – Chapter 5 – God Gives you Forgiveness - Complete one of the “Suggestions for daily life” OR “Enrichments activities” – page 15 OR a Simple celebration meal on page 16.

Once you’ve completed you’re weekly family assignment, please initial next to the activity you have chosen.  The children, who have completed the weekly assignment, will receive a small token as an incentive to get the homework done.

We want to thank you in advance for your assistance.  Please know that if your child misses a week (or if you just want to see what we’ve done in class), you can always check the parish website (www.olphlakeview.com) and look under the religious education department for the “We missed you”.
